I get chills down my spine every single time I see it. Even watching it on a loop.

[Picture is a screen-capture from the animated film "The Hunchback of Notre Dame", where Quasimodo is lifting Esmeralda above him from a balcony of sorts in a huge church-like building, at night, it seems? Esmeralda is wearing a long white dress and has dark olive skin and long black hair. Quasimodo is a short person with light olive skin and wearing a brown tunic or shirt of sorts.]

Forget Hellfire. I think the "Sanctuary!" scene in The Hunchback of Notre Dame is the most epic Disney scene ever!

It looks like he's lifting weights. Just, one hand under the knees and one under the back, arms over your head -- it just doesn't seem like a good way to support an unconscious person. What's wrong with the traditional arm-cradle?

You should find the scene on Youtube if you can. He's lifting her up to show her to the crowd below while claiming sanctuary for her.

it's pretty awesome.

I loved that scene too. There may have been re-enactments of it involving my cat...

Agreed! This is my favorite Disney film, but on some days I like to skip through the rest of it to this scene because it's just that amazing imho.

It's so funny that you posted a Hunchback of Notre Dame secret!! I just watched it the other day and was thinking about doing a secret about how I like how dark this is and that it's among my favorite movies and how awesome it is that Netflix is streaming it!

I just think the whole movie is great.

Hellfire appeals to me more visually, but hell yes "Sanctuary!" is the best bit of music in the entire movie. I recently added it to my workout playlist, which is one of the highest honors I can give a song.

*sad to be a day late on this secret* I remember on the DVD commentary Wise and Trousdale talked about how that part was basically the reason they made the movie. It's epic.

I think The Hunchback of Notre Dame is overall one of the most epic Disney movies ever. :D
