I haven't seen that, but Disney ripping things off doesn't really surprise me. I think there was an old, obscureish anime that someone said it was a rip off of as well. I read about that a long time ago.

That would be Kimba the White Lion.

The Lion King definitely did take some stuff from it, like the shape of Pride Rock, but I think most people ranting about that missed the part where the Lion King is Hamlet.

Also, Kimba and Simba both mean lion, IIRC.

I always knew about Kimba actually, because my mom had seen it and when we saw The Lion King she was all, "That's Kimba! They totally stole Kimba!"

But yeah I was talking about Atlantis, and the anime I was thinking of was Nadia Secret of Blue Water.

Disney has a proud tradition of Ripping of Ghilbi works (and then releasing them without comment in the states)

That's the one! I've been meaning to watch it. For the past ten years.

But... that's not ghilbi, that's gainax work.

Whoops. There was supposed to be an additional sentence in there (and some kimba pics)

I remember this... but didn't the guy who posted it said that it was a social experiment and that it wasn't really a rip off? It had more to do with character archetypes/stereotypes than a full on rip off or something.

I bet we could do the whole comparison panel with Stargate too.

Fushugi no umi no Nadia!! My favorite anime of all time that practically no one has ever heard of!! You've made my day just with the pictures.

Though, yeah. Atlantis very clearly ripped off Nadia in a lot of ways. There are some similarities that I'd believe are coincidental but so many others are practically frame by frame taken from Nadia.
