You can make some darn good fish/salmon in the oven. Just put a small fillet on a piece of aluminum foil skin-side-down (when I get salmon at the store it usually comes as one giant footlong fillet that I divide into 5 or so pieces); you can flavor the fish however you like. I usually mix it up--one piece has some lemon juice an paprika, one has pineapple juice and slices, one has maple syrup (the BEST, but you need REAL syrup!!). Fold the poil together so it makes a little packet--aka there's a bit of airspace over the fish. This makes it steam as well as baking. Put all the packets on a cookie sheet (so they don't leak all over your oven!) and bake until they're flakey. I make this every year on my birthday. :D

I am not a big fish fan, but all my family is. I'll have to make something for them. What fish type do you recommend?

Salmon! It goes particularly well with the maple syrup. :D
