That's what I went in thinking too, OP.

That said, I wish more people would have brought up the cannibalism (and by extension, vomit) before I went to see the movie. None of the people I've seen talking about it mentioned it at all, and when I saw that particular scene I seriously got physically ill.

I thought it might be a parody based on the bird on the head alone.

I don't know about parody but despite some of the serious stuff, it seemed like a comedy to me.

[Picture is the poster from the movie "The Lone Ranger". It shows a man wearing a stuffed bird as a hat, white and black facial paint and various skins and leather, walking next to a man with light olive skin, wearing a white hat, a black eye mask and a dark grayish blue suit. They are walking through the desert next to a man wearing a wild west bandit sort of suit, a red-headed, pale-skinned woman wearing an extravagant red and black hair and headdress and a train to the side carrying a white horse rearing back.]

From the stills and the plot synopsis I thought this sounded like a parody. (The Lone Ranger is a lawyer? Who literally comes back from the dead?) (Cannibalism?) (A freakin' bird on his head?)

Maybe they should have gone that way. It might have been a better movie.
cadremage: (why is this)

...what.

I avoided basically everything to do with this movie, so I was operating under the delusion that it was just a straight remake.

What...but...why?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-15 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
...thank you, Fandom!Secrets, because of you, I have dodged another bullet.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-15 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
But it is pretty much a parody? That movie very obviously does't take itself seriously, which is why I enjoyed it so much. It's silly and ridiculous and it KNOWS that it's silly and ridiculous and it just makes fun of itself. I was actually surprised by how entertaining it was.

Pretty much this.

It had William Fichtner in it. Therefore it was 5.50 well spent on my part.

imo this is the only good reason to see this movie
there are no other good reasons

Honestly, I wanted Tonto to be a con artist who faked up the whole "Native American on a quest" thing to get at the gold or silver or whatever it was.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 07:02 am (UTC)(link)
For some reason, I thought that was the actual plot of the movie. I think I heard on ONTD that Depp's character was playing a white man pretending to be a Native American, hence the reason they cast Depp in the role.

Then I saw the movie...and was sadly mistaken. :(

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't see the movie, because I knew I would be sadly mistaken.

You know what's sad, is that this would a) have been a great way to update the premise, and b) have been a great excuse for having Johnny Depp basically play Captain Jack Sparrow in an unrelated movie, which he did anyway.

Cannibalism?

Thank god I didn't go and watch that movie.

(Didn't really plan to aynway because I love crows and having a stuffed crow on Depp's stupid head for the whole movie was just "... nah, fuck it.")

bird on head you say...?
