I'm a non-smoker but I write about characters smoking a lot to the point where I kind of consider it a stylistic thing. I like to give my characters vices, or maybe just something to do with their hands/mouths when they're pulling off a heist or having a showdown of some kind. Plus it's visually appealing. I like the way the smoke looks. I think I'm also working out some issues with the smokers I grew up around.
