How Konami Fucked me.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
So, I'm from the UK (this is important) and today I was in grainger games. Saw the Legacy Collection of MGS. All the MGS games released to date. £45. Score.

Got it home and fired it up, and it won't let me DL Half the games. Turns out that the codes to download MG, MG2, MGS1, MGS1 VR Mission, and both the digital comics don't work. They won't work until the end of September when Konami activate them.

I can play MGS2, MGS3, and MGS Peace Walker, though. Which would be great if I didn't already have those games for the XBOX.

Take it back to the shop, and they say "Yeah, we know, but we can't accept it as a return, because some of these games are downloaded from codes and There's no way to know if these codes are still valid, it's not like just returning a disc. We'd have to accept it as a part exchange. You'll get £15 back, is that ok? No? Tough Shit!"

So yeah. Now I have a choice between having a series of games I can't play for another month, or I can take some vigorous financial sodomy.

So... wait a month?

I mean, I get that it's surprising and frustrating, but the course of action seems pretty clear.

I'm confused as to why they would include and send out codes that wouldn't be activated until September. They didn't do that with North American collection. Seems weird to me.

So, just wait. What's so bad about that? A month isn't a lot of time at all, I could finish two games at the MOST in a month. Didn't the Legacy come with MGS4 also?

Thread OP, did you buy a US copy or something? Because it looks like the legacy collection isn't out for another month where you are - and if you bought a US import, those codes ain't gonna work *at all* with a UK PSN account. Just saying...

They didn't do that with North American collection. Seems weird to me.

In point of fact, they did. During my research of the issue, I found various Yanks making the same complaint back when it got it's US release. but they just had to wait for 1 day (When on sale in the morning, but wasn't unlocked till the evening.) fucking Konami.

I know I just have to wait for a month, but it's a fucking pain. I spent £45 I could barely afford because I wanted to play the original games, If I'd know this was going to happen, I'd have kept the £45 to give myself some financial breathing room this month, and bought the game next month when I could actually play the fucken thing.

I...

Konami didn't fuck you. You fucked yourself.

If you could barely afford to buy this, then you shouldn't have bought it. Period.

Don't blame others on the fact that you are bad at money.

Wow. asshole much?

And FYI, I can afford it, and I'm not bad with money. I have all my bills paid, and had an excess of £50 disposable money for the rest of the month. I could afford the game, so I bought the game. Unfortunately I didn't get the game, and now for the rest of this month instead of having a new game and £5 change, I have £5 and nothing else.

I forgot about that, but I also didnt buy the collection day one. Still, that's a few hours - we only really needed to wait for PSN to update its store on release day if I recall. Which is reasonable.

Are you sure you didn't somehow buy a US copy? I'm seeing the UK release date as September 13 and Konami even tweeted it. I have no idea why they'd include codes that won't work for a month. So either your store sold you an import or you fucked yourself.

I'm sure. Don't know how I can be sure, but the packaging has a lot of French on it, so I assume it's the European version

Re: How Konami Fucked me.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 05:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It could also be a Canadian version if the packaging has both English and French. Like I said, the EU/UK version isn't even out yet, so how can they sell you a domestic copy.

Is there an ESRB rating on the front? Then it's North America.

You'd think it'd die imediately once the internet took it's present form but nope.

Cause I"m sure that helps piracy.

Region locking then varying up prices and sales across regions.

So so tempted to pirate and the only reason I haven't is because I want to support the company.

but argh $10 more for an optional DLC because of "tax"?! That's not fucking tax

And there were no clearly labeled warnings like "digital release dates apply only to NA region, different regions have different digital release dates" or something? is that even legal? I remember EU laws being more serious about that sort of thing
