Hmmm. Still have to beat the interspecies barrier.

They're both stuffed animals, I think it counts as the same species. ShutupI'mpretendingthatmakessense.

Agreed. I remember I used to ship Oliver and Dodger from Oliver and Company without thinking it was a big thing.

Oh man, yeah. Dodger was so in love with Oliver and vice versa. But, Oliver is a kitten so it's more than just the gay interspecies thing that makes it really weird.

Hah. I remember shipping them too, on an unconscious level.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-16 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
did any of the characters in winnie the pooh kiss though? it's been a while since I've watched it but I don't recall there being much romance in the show at all (was Roo's father ever even shown? I'm assuming his mom was married but I don't ever recall seeing her husband)

I don't recall there being any romance, period. And I don't think they ever really even mentioned Roo's father, let alone showed him.

Roo's dad was not part of the story at all, for all we know, he didn't have one. There was no romance.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-17 08:37 am (UTC)(link)
Roo's father had probably died before the story.

[Picture is Tigger and Rabbit from the franchise "Winnie The Pooh". They are a living stuffed toy tiger and a yellow rabbit. Tigger is sitting over Rabbit, who is lying on his back somewhere sort of rural. Tigger is pointing at Rabbit and and smiling.]

I shipped them before I even knew what shipping was.

It's sad that homosexuality is still such a taboo topic, even in the twenty-first century. I don't think kids really give a crap what gender two lovers are. My six year old self always figured: Tigger loves Rabbit, and Rabbit obviously loves Tigger (though he didn't like to show it) so what was the problem? Why weren't they kissing already?!

Huh, now this is interesting. When I was young I knew that there HAS to be a connection between Rabbit and Tiger, but how much of a connection was it? I used to daydream that both of them do not hate each other as much as they could show it and that both of them were grateful for each other's presence.

Talk about going down memory lane.

I probably shouldn't be this ashamed to say that when I was little, I never even considered two guys or two girls getting married. (That's how I shipped until my teens; I didn't understand romance at all, and never really shipped in the sense of wanting characters to get together; I just occasionally thought "oh, what if those two got married, because he's the main character and she's the prettiest/only girl!"...maybe I do have reason to be ashamed, because now I absolutely loathe pairings based on that kind of reasoning.)

if it helps I thought that way too. I discovered slash when I was eleven or twelve and I pretty much went from "This is sick and wrong" to obsessed within a week.

You were young and didn't know a lot of stuff. It's nothing to be ashamed of.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Don't feel bad about it. The closest I came to same-gender shipping when I was young was "I want them to be best friends forever and live next door to each other" etc.

I never thought about two guys or two girls getting married because to me that was just something that didn't happen. Boys and girls got married, and two girls or two boys became friends. (To be fair to my young self, I actually have a vague memory at around 7 of asking my parents what a 'lesbian' was after I heard the word on the news and having them act like they had no clue what the word meant. And then changing the subject.)

Ugh, me too, OP. Probably something I didn't realise until the hype for the last movie came. Sure there was nothing extreme about it (it just got as far as to potential hugging and cuddling and just odd silent annoyance that there are so little Tigger/Rabbit interactions--I'm looking at you Tigger Movie), but then the last movie came and I just, "Oh God I totally shipped them, did I. Wait no, ship

I might have shipped that a little, unconsciously, but somehow I also thought Rabbit was a girl when I was a kid (and Piglet too), so...

This is so cute :) IA, I did this type of thing unconsciously all the time, although I never explicitly thought about kissing (mostly because I was uninterested in any sort of romance, het or not, when I was little).

Not gay

Cause Rabbit's a transwoman! (fondly remembers old secret)

omfg I thought this was calvin and hobbes and I was so confused until I got to "rabbit" and actually looked at the picture

(Anonymous) 2013-08-17 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
me too

I also thought C3PO and R2D2 were married

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
That's so cute :)
I also always considered R2 to be female when I was a kid.

I love this! I never thought about shipping Tigger and Rabbit, but it makes perfect sense. :)

When I was a kid, I couldn't figure out Rabbit's gender at all. Actually, a lot of characters from kid's shows (especially the Care Bears) tended to occupy some third Other Gender to me. I don't know how old I was before I stopped thinking that (or if I really have at all), but I guess it's just part of the thing that, yeah, kids just don't care so much about gender until social pressure starts making them care. It was perfectly easy to accept that Rabbit was a not-boy who also wasn't a girl.

I dunno.
