I live in the Mid-North North Carolina. Less than half an hour from the Virgina border.

The main dangers here are the same where the wild is big. Snakes. Spiders. Big mammals that want to eat you. Small bacteria that want to use you as a host. But if you are smart, you'll be fine.

And then you can take walks in woods like these;

Yep. Just be careful of snakes. I didn't see any, personally. But I was told that they were around. Though I did see a bear. Luckily, it didn't see me as I bolted back to my car.

I think after having a king cobra taking up residence in the back kitchen I've been desensitized to snakes. If it's a bear...

I think I would either take a picture or run back to my car, or do both. What kinds of bears are they? The only bear we have here is the Sun Bear and good luck trying to find any of them in South Malaysia.

Yeah, your King Cobra beats the rattlers we have around here. As far as bears go, it's just a common brown bear. The only bad side to them is that they are fearless when it comes to humans. They have no problem wondering into the city part of my town. A couple of years ago one wandered into the down town part. So you have all these sky scrapers and a bear just moseying among them. It was surreal.
