Air conditioning or swamp cooler? We had a swamp cooler when we lived there and it was useless, but we weren't going to be there long enough to justify the cost the installing air conditioning. We wanted air conditioning from the beginning but none of the houses on the market at the time had it :(

Our house is newish so we have central AC, but we keep it so it's not constantly on or the electric bill would be outrageous. We also have ceiling fans in almost every room as well as personal fans.

Yeah, I totally understand about the electric bill. The swamp cooler was a little bit better in that regard, but not much. We didn't run it all the time, either. I just always felt like if we'd had AC, we could get the temp down enough to make it bearable in the house for the times we didn't turn it on.
