the author took a few long breaks recently

he stopped posting for weeks/months, when his normal schedule is like a dozen updates a day

there were only like two or three breaks before that, often for big flash updates (the longest one being a month-long break for a 14 minute update that sent the fandom into withdrawal)

Parts of it are.

Fewer parts than used to be, lately, probably because that's the only way to get back to updating with anything resembling regularity.

This kind of puzzles me. A two month break is annoying, sure, but TV shows regularly go on hiatus for 3+ months. Book series routinely go years between installments. Some people are going to get distracted and wander off in the meantime, but an entire fandom?

web comics aren't tv shows, though. people follow web comics that update regularly to keep them in the flow of the story. with a work as vast and complicated as homestuck, a month's break can mean half of the next story arc won't make sense to you anymore because you didn't remember minute details from six months ago.
