8. While I can see why someone might dislike FB for legitimate reasons, it always weirds me out when people act like it's just shallow shoujo, because it really, really isn't.

Honestly, people generally just hate on any series that gets 'too' popular. Generally, it happens only a couple years after they themselves thought it was totally awesome.

A couple of years ago, it was cool to watch Naruto and hate Yugi-Oh (Except for the old 'hardcore' parts of the manga and the anime that wasn't dubbed, because it's awesome and obscure).
Then Naruto got "omg ruined by fantards but it was never that great to begin with.", so then it was cool to watch Fullmetal Alchemist and hate Naruto, until Fullmetal Alchemist got "omg ruined by fantards but it always sucked except for the manga". After that, it then became cool to hate FMA, and love Bleach. Then Bleach got "omg ruined by fantards except for the manga" and Death Note was cool instead. Then Death note got "omg ruined by fantards", etcetera. :D

What generally-liked-at-present-but-soon-to-be-doomed-by elitists anime would you say we're on right now?

I kind of stopped paying attention after FMA, because I was too busy reading 'overrated shoujo crap'. Lawls!

I don't believe so. *Hasn't jumped on that bandwagon quite yet*

I fear Ouran will be the next Fruits Basket in this regard, though.

yyyy! Just because the characters don't carry around swords and scream at each other constantly... I love my shonen series, too. Why should one be better than the other? FB and Ouran and Saiunkoku and tons of other shojo series have depth and are enjoyable!
