2. In before angry atheist responses, gb2/church/, etc.

19. Ugh, I hate that word, "thinspiration". It's freaking anorexia, not a cutesy self-help program! Stop fooling yourself, get help, and get a sandwhich for the love of God.

I can be a surly atheist on occasions but...

Come one. Veggie Tales. How can you hate Veggie Tales? ): Anybody who hates Veggie Tales is taking themselves way too seriously.

I was going to say... I mean, you'd have to be a real fucking jerk to hate on Veggie Tales.

I think that irks me more than anything, using "thinspiration" as a way to try and get around the knee-jerk reactions people have when you use words like "anorexia".

Oddly, "thinspiration" gives me a more serious knee-jerk reaction than anorexia does. Probably because it feels more sinister as a way of sugar coating anorexia.

Just watch, when more people learn about it it'll have the exact same connotations. Did you know that the word "brainwashing" was originally intended as a sugarcoated term to make it sound pure and right? Now it has sinister enough connotations that people start to say "reeducation" instead if they're doing it.

[identity profile] putana.livejournal.com 2007-10-06 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? Didn't know that about the brainwashing term. Will have to look that up. I think on the internet (or at least LJ) thinspiration has the same negative view. However, I haven't heard it used off-line at all. I agree though, the public at large does view anything to do with anorexia quite badly, so terms like thinspiration probably wouldn't last long as a positive term.

2. I'm not a Christian and I LOVE VT. The original, good, religious version. It's impossible to not feel happy after watching it!

19. God, I know. I hate that people now think that "anorexia" is a LIFESTYLE rather than an eating disorder. I think the majority of ana kids aren't actually anorexic, just attention whores, though. So...
