I've read the responses to this and, well...I realize that a) writing about sex doesn't equal having sex and b) children are exposed to a lot of graphic violence and sex, and that it's silly and naive to imagine they don't know anything about either of them.

However, I think what the OP might have meant was that it's troubling that a 12 year old would know enough about sex to write it convincingly, especially if it involved young characters. Had I read the fic/s in question, it might have set off potential "abuse victim" warning bells.

I wrote, RPed and drew smut (fairly accurately, too) when I was 12, and I was still a virgin. In fact, I pretty much STOPPED writing smut when I had sex for the first time.

Well, I know that I could have written sex convincingly age 12. I wouldn't have been writing that the hymen is halfway back, or the penis is 15 inches long, or that everyone orgasms at exactly the same time, etc etc. How did I know that? from reading. Yeah okay MAYBE I shouldn't have been reading it... but pretty much every 12 year old does. In fact I got into my family's Mills and Boon 'romance' novel collection when I was 9. It's no reason to go dobbing them in to their parents. You CAN'T keep or expect a 12 year old to be completely innocent. This isn't the Victorian era.

Is there any REAL indication that this 12 year old is off having really good sex all the time? And it's not sounding like the 12 year old has been molested, since it's good smut. She's not writing about a molestation, from what the secret said anyway. It's fiction. Just let her write it.

Bwah...?! Um, you don't have to have sex or be abused to write convincing sex, you know. There's something to be said for a little research and imagination.

Being creeped out by it is totally understandable. I can sympathize, since I was picking up smutty romance novels when no one was looking as early as nine, but there is a huge difference between "oh gross i feel creepy" and "QUICK FIND ME DOX I MUST CALL HER PARENTS".

Get it?
