Original A/B/O anon

(Anonymous) 2013-08-17 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
... I too am sick of it... And dub-con/non-con passed off as fully consentual.

The in-heat thing's basically falling in love with your rapist and having no choice in the matter, which disturbs me on so many bloody levels. Don't even get me started... But no, I don't view it as all consensual, and some authors' idea of the boundary lines creeps me out too.

That and any kink that takes away free will to choose your partner and emphasises the animalistic aspect of sex just doesn't sit well with me.

And another fandom I'm in is Dragon Age - tiny but quite fair on the ratio of slash to het - and it's often done with het. Mages are always Omegas, and I do have to ask, "Aren't they abused enough by the system in this 'verse already?" It's so cliche and constantly used as an excuse for woobifying characters that don't need it; in a dark fantasy 'verse, they're tragic enough as it is.

Wait. What. It shows up in Dragon Age, too? Good God, why? And why mages as omegas? No, no, wait, let me guess: It's usually Anders.

Original A/B/O anon, again

It's always Anders.

It's always, always woobie!Anders. Abused Anders, tortured Anders, raped Anders, Circle Anders... Doesn't he get enough abuse already, without being thrown into an omega!verse?

You get the idea. And usually Bethany or M!Hawke, as well - often paired with him, in the case of het. Mages get all the tropes: soulbonds, odd afterlives, anthro!fic...

Siiiiigh. These are people who can set everything on fire with their minds (Anders whom we actually met while he was setting darkspawn on fire), so of course they're helpless victims. Fandom, why do you do these things.
