I'd have them the way they would be in a book - logically arranged and ending in logical places.

But overall I tend to prefer the shorter chapters/more updates scheme to the longer chapters/less updates one.

Longer chapters posted less frequently. Really short ones are too often unsatisfying. Though it's good in the former case if the author lets the audience know occasionally that the WIP is still, in fact, IP or if they've ditched it for greener pastures.

Longer chapters posted less often, definitely.

Longer chapters for me. I'd say wherever the natural break is in your writing, that's when you should upload the next piece. May it be long or short.

If you're almost done the first major scene, I'd say wait. Personally, I'd like to read something like that in its entirely instead of in broken and possibly awkward pieces.

I get really frustrated with short chapters updated frequently. It feels unsatisfying and I'm more likely to just give up. I'd much rather have a bit of a wait for a nice long chapter I can sink in to.

Longer chapters. I hate fics that have like 100k words and 100 chapters.

Longer chapters, definitely. If I'm following the fic as it's being updated, shorter chapters make things too choppy and I'm more likely to forget what's going on, even if I don't have to wait very long for updates. (If I come to the story after it's complete, chapter length doesn't matter.) Long chapters give me more time with the fic and I feel less impatient for updates, even though I'm desperate to know what happens next. I can always spread reading a chapter over multiple days if I don't have time for it all in one go, and waiting longer for the next chapter encourages me to go back and re-read the latest ones.

Depends. What is your measurement for long and short chapters? And also, when you say posted less frequently do you mean instead of once a week you post twice a week or is it more along the lines of instead of once a month it becomes once a three months.

I would prefer stories where people didn't think those were options. Cause seriously, if you go "eh, I can break this to be long or short, doesn't matter," then you probably aren't churning out good chapters.

I prefer chapters that have a chapter-appropriate ending. How about that?

the writing is going to be the same regardless of how it gets broken up

A whole world of "nope" to that one. Do you really not see that organizing your story and where you put your scene and chapter breaks is just as important as the creative aspects? Seriously.

Do what you want, obviously, but you did ask for opinions. My opinion is that, if you're just churning out chapters because you don't want fandom to forget you, your story might end up a hot, unorganized mess.

I guess I could see how the writing might be the same, but the reading definitely will not be. My suggestion is to not post solely because you're afraid readers won't remember you. Post because it's a good starting and ending place for that section or chapter of the story.
