I played DA:O on PS3 and eventually switched to easy. I kept getting killed in random encounters in about 10 seconds. It was nuts - I looked up online how you were supposed to play on harder difficulties or even normal, and apparently you had to approach this like a real time strategy game. Problem is that I really hate making complex strategic decisions under such pressure.

I dunno, maybe I'm just exceptionally bad at this game, but I really dunno how others deal with it. I can also only imagine what a pain the Fade must be on Normal and Hard.

I had a lot of trouble with the combat in that game at first, as well. My approach wound up not being "real-time" at all; I'd be constantly pausing to rearrange/choose different actions. And I tried to simplify it as much as I could through party composition (yup, I stuck to the MMO trinity: tank/heals/dps) and use of the Tactics system.

The pausing was the biggest thing for me. It transformed battles from this crazy, hectic mess of flailing and dying to a nice, slow dance.

Yes, I'm glad I played it on the PC for that reason: Cheating is great when you just want to get over the frustrating parts. I absolutely agree about the real time strategy thing - it just takes too long for me to still be enjoyable.
