Ear piercing question

(Anonymous) 2013-08-18 09:11 pm (UTC)(link)
This relates to the headphone/earbud discussion upthread. I got my tragus (cartilage in the ear) pierced less than a year ago. I think it's healing faster than usual, but wearing earbuds still causes irritation or discomfort at the piercing.

It's a common piercing so I figure some of you must've done it. Can you wear earbuds all right after it heals or should I invest in headphones for my unusually small head? (I'm short so my head's small and most headphones don't fit, it's not that I'm Andre the Giant with a disproportionately small head.)

Could ones like these be of use? http://i.imgur.com/NPogYJP.jpg

They hang on the ear and don't press against your head or go into your ear. The sound quality isn't as good as the in-ear or noise-cancelling headphones, IMO, but it might be a good option while the piercing heals.

That looks like a good option, yeah. Thanks for the suggestion. :)

I have both tragus (traguses? tragii?) pierced and I found that I needed to wear external headphones while they were actually healing because omg that shit hurt. Your earbuds will also get all gunky from the plasma and stuff. Now that they've healed though (had them for like 7 years now) I earbud all the way.

Do you find that they jewelry gets in the way or makes the headphones fit oddly? Because I like the look of tragus piercings, but I spend about a third of my time wearing headphones.

I have a ring as opposed to a barbell, so I just flip the rings up to pop the ear buds in. I don't have any issues or feel weird with them like that.

Cool, thanks! :D I'd probably do a ring if I ever got it done. I like how rings look.

That's exactly what I was hoping to hear. I've only had mine for 9 months or so, so they're not quite there yet.
