Are they British by any chance? My father's side of the family is and even though I have had extremely limited contact with them I know I have:
* A father who may or may not have been dyslexic.
* A grandmother who may or may not have been a pin-up model for a year while my grandfather was working in Japan and may or may not have been allowing his work to be "stolen" by Russian scientists during the cold war.
* An uncle who may or may not have been a "confirmed bachelor" (read gay).
* A cousin who may or may not have been a high-class companion who married her john.
* A great aunt who may or may not have been a feminist.
* Distant family members who may or may not have opposed apartheid in South Africa.
* A cousin twice-removed (or something) who may or may not have given up a lucrative career in law to be a sportscaster in South Africa.

All depending on who you speak to, who else is in the room, if they think you're too stupid to pick up on subtleties, and how liberal with their tongue they're feeling at the moment.
