I pretty much almost lost a friend completely because they never acknowledged a gift story I wrote for them. I was so hurt and angry. They never even SAW it. But we're not so close anymore, even with that cleared up. :(

I don't write gifts for people anymore. It's too...ugh.

*hugs* that's awful.

I'm about 50/50 on gifts for people I know. One dear friend appreciated that I'd immersed myself into an entirely new canon just to write for her, but then she was a lovely person to begin with, so even if she hated the stories she'd still be gracious. The other person I "knew" who I wrote a gift for was a tool from the get-go.

This is why I pretty much just write treats and pinches now. It makes me happy that I can give someone a fic who otherwise wouldn't have one in an exchange ... which is why I do feel it tarnishes my "good deed" if I get miffed at not getting a response after a year.
