IDK, I think it's a lot more than the gender.

I'd say that the culture of the industry is toxic, to produce something that eye-burningly awful.

It's like they're not just apathetic towards women. Shit like this makes it seem like they actively hate women and are trying really, really hard to prevent any girl from ever wanting to buy their games.

Well, we can always wait and see how well it sells. I suspect it will sell really well because it's the culture and attitudes of the average male that's toxic.

I totally agree, but like I say, I don't think this is limited to the game industry, or to Japanese males like an anon above suggested.

i don't think guys are automatically born thinking this way
i don't think it's just "how they are"

i think these kinds of attitudes get ingrained into them by a subset of guys who DO think this way. and it gets put into movies and books and video games until you don't even notice it any more.

and then they say to guys growing up "this is how all guys are. this is how all women are. this is how YOU are. this is how the world works."

and then people start beleiving it.

idk i'm just really pissed off right now at the world in general and this probably doesn't even make any sense but AAARGHHHH i'm going to go watch funny cat videos to make myself feel better.

See, if you want to make a statement about one thing causing another, then you kind of have to control for other factors.

Whether or not this game sells well is not dependent on the female character designs. If it does sell well, then that's not necessarily an indication that men are just going "BOOOOOBIEEEEEES" and unthinkingly plopping down their money. Case in point: it took me a while to figure out what the OP was talking about, because the first few reviews I found for the game solely referenced the environments and gameplay. Believe it or not, most gamers who buy it are going to do so for those things.

And, actually, I think that further demonstrates how out of touch the industry is: if you ratchet up the T&A, but everything else about the game sucks, then it's not going to do well. The pervs can just go online and look at screenshots for free.
