I once drew some fanart for someone in my fandom, she was really gushing in her email to me, wanted to post it for everyone to see yada yada. She posted lots of other gifts from people, but not mine. I was a little hurt but tried to suck it up, told myself maybe she'd just forgot.

A little while later she posted art she'd commissioned from another (yes, better) artist. It was the same picture as mine, just redrawn by her friend. Fuck you, you're one of the reasons I gave up drawing, yeah its still humiliating even if no-one else knew I'd drawn that for you, it was a shitty thing to do.

I would have posted somewhere super public the pic you drew, a screencap of the e-mail, a few more screencaps showing the lack of posting of your art when she uploaded everyone else's pics, then the commissioned re-drawn picture and then something like, "Wow, [name of ex-friend], you could just have told me you didn't like my picture" as a final fuck you before jumping ship. Holy crap. D:

I hope you find a way back to drawing, for your own happiness. It doesn't sit right to me -as someone who is getting to learn to draw and for once enjoying it just for me- to see that someone ruined it for you by being a jerk. :(

Thanks anon. Sadly they were the fandom darling so I would have been pilloried if I'd called them out.

I suppose I should be completely fair and say they weren't the only reason I stopped drawing (another incident of snide remarks and someone IRL who shamed me for drawing 'dirty' pictures) but it really made me feel like a loser. The worst thing is I look back on the things I drew then and think 'wow did I draw that, its really good' and lament how my skills have atrophied so badly because of a few assholes.

I wish I could give past!me a hug and tell them that those people don't matter.
