My first thought was that it doesn't sound unreasonable to disassociate the recipient from the fic after so long without *any* response. My second thought was that I'm not in a position to talk.

I once had a giftfic exchange a while - years - back, with an online acquaintance (she reviewed one of my fics, we were enthusiastic fans...you likely know the deal). However, we fell out of touch, I at least fell out of the relevant fandom, and neither of the fics were finished. I still feel guilty for not drawing a line under things properly when I knew I wasn't in a position to continue. We both acknowledged each other's work, it was just never finished.

Yet reading these comments just make me wonder whether I'm underestimating this by concluding that RL happened for us both.
