"Gypsy" is another word for the Romany people. It's generally the more commonly used term, and certainly the word most people know, rather than the word "Romany." But it is also considered a slur, and not actually the right term.

So it is a little awkward that the jaeger is called "Gipsy Danger."

I was a little surprised when I heard it in theatres, but by the time the movie was over, my brain was exploding from everything else, so...

Gypsy is fine as a term. It's when you start putting inaccurate descriptors around it that it becomes problematic. For example Law-Abiding Gypsy is just completely offensive to anyone who has had a gyppo park their van near them for a week or so.
