I wish Joss had known it was a oneshot movie, then he could have killed them all off in a heroic sacrifice. You know he wanted to. River was going to be awesome, but overwhelmed ultimately, the guys in the tunnel devoured, and Mal die of his wounds after "educating" the verse. I wish that had happened, a true blaze of glory to close the book on the show. Better than that wishy-washy ending we got when he hedged his bets for a sequel that never came. They could have gone out as legends.
