Secret 1 - Fandom friendship

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is an image of a human brain inside a transparent blue head. The brain lobes are colored in different colors: Frontal is magenta, Parietal is yellow, Temporal is green and Occipital is dark purple/blue. The image is cropped, but I think the Cerebellum is light blue too.]

I used to have a close fandom friend. But some things changed and they stopped talking to me. Eventually we fought over something stupid and fandom related and they ended everything between us. They said some hurtful things to me and I was probably a jerk too, but I keep waiting for them to come back. It's been a while. I should accept that it's not going to happen. But I miss how things used to be.

Picture is incredibly obscurely related.

Secret 2 - Rule of Rose

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:51 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the cover picture of the videogame "Rule of Rose". It features the silhouette of a young woman or child trapped inside a minimalist red rose with some black thorns below that. There is also a butterfly, a rabbit, a bird and a dog or pig like creature hanging from some vines around their belly, all around the thorns.]

I'd kill for a fandom.

Secret because: It's a thirteen year old obscure video game. Does anyone actually cares?

Secret 3 - Coloring trends in manga

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Tohru Honda? from the manga "Fruits Basket" and Kyo as a cat. Tohru is a young woman with light skin and has long hair, which in the secret looks white because it's a black and white picture, but is brown in the anime. She is wearing a short-sleeved dark dress. She is cradling in her arms a cat, Kyo, who is colored light gray, but is orange-y blond on the anime. The cat looks content with his eyes closed, like Tohru, and has his head against Tohru's cheek.]

Whenever I read a manga with a character whose hair looks like this, I automatically imagine them as blonde. Even if I know they're a brunette or have light brown hair, my mind always registers them as blondes.

Secret because I'm afraid people will accuse me of whitewashing if I admit this.

Secret 4 - Alec Baldwin, 30 Rock

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the actor Alec Baldwin playing Jack Donaghy from the TV show "30 Rock". He is a man with light skin, short brown hair gelled back with some graying hairs on the sides. He is wearing a dark blue suit with a white shirt and a blue tie with diagonal stripes. He is smiling as he stands and has his hands shoved into the pockets of his pants or trousers.]

I think Alec Baldwin is a creep in real life. But I found him oddly adorable in 30 Rock.

Secret 5 - PC gaming, computer gaming

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a white or light gray videogame gamepad or controller with bright colored buttons; it's a Gravis Gamepad -- the first real PC gamepad ever.]

I hate Personal Computer gaming. I get irrationally angry whenever someone brings it up (especially a certain someone on Fandom Secrets) and I'm so sick of hearing about it. What is the point of Personal Computer gaming? Seriously, why would you even fucking bother? Personal Computers are for spreadsheets. If you want to play games get a Playstation or something. Don't blow $5000 on a glorified typewriter just so you can play your stupid military games with ~ultra precision~ or whatever it is you brag about. I wish World of Warcraft was on PlayStation 3 so I'd never have to look at my brother's Personal Computer ever again.

Secret 6 - Doctor Who

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:54 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the actress Karen Gillan playing Amy Pond from the TV show "Doctor Who". She is a woman with pale skin and orange-red hair in layers, reaching her chest. She has hazel or gray yes and soft red lips. She is wearing a black undershirt, a red blouse and a dark leather jacket with three-quarter length sleeves. She is leaning to a side with her arms spread a bit for balance.]

Oh my God. You are NOT the authority on Pond! Do you have any idea how pretentious you are?? This is why I hate the Big Name Fan worship, a Big Name Fan gets an idea and suddenly the sheep start accepting it as canon.

Secret 7 - Pacific Rim

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:55 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is a blue-print of sorts for a giant robot/mecha called "Gipsy Danger"? from the USA, from the movie "Pacific Rim". There is a chart showing that it is as 260 feet tall, as 40 tars piled on top of each other.]

It's been a fucking long while since Pacific Rim came out and I have yet to see anyone actually discussing the SLUR in the name of Mako and Raleigh's jaeger. I guess it's nice to know that in the future we're still shitty.

Secret 8 - Fairly OddParents

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Timmy Turner from the cartoon "The Fairly OddParents" smiling and being licked on the cheek by a yellow and orange dog who has one of the floating crown things that all fairies in the show do. Timmy is a child with short brown hair with long bangs/forelocks, a pink hat, pink T-shirt and blue pants or trousers. He has light skin. The dog has a blue nose, red hair and ears, red freckles and a red spot around its right eyes, plus visible orange eyebrows. The rest of its fur is a subdued yellow. The dog is inside a metal cage next to a table with a light blue cloth draped over it and with a golden candlestick with three lit candles. They are all inside some room with shiny light gray tiles on the floor and a blue wall.]

I expected to be annoyed out of my mind. I expected to find him a useless gimmick. But he melted my heart. (And I hate cheesy phrases, so you know I really mean it.)

Secret because: I haven't seen anyone who didn't think "wow, what an annoying, useless gimmick!"

Secret 9 - General Fandom

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is the musical group The Beatles, the Ring from the "The Lord of The Rings" trilogy of movies, Commander Shepard from the "Mass Effect" videogames?, some doors with the words "DON'T OPEN DEAD INSIDE" painted on, with tons of hands peaking out between the bulging doors as zombies try to burst out from the TV show "The Walking Dead", the cast from the TV show "Star Trek", Walter White from the TV show "Breaking Bad", the covers of the book series "Harry Potter", and a map showing two large continents from the world of the book series "A Song of Ice and Fire", all inside circles around the text of the secret.]

Fandom has taken completely over my life. I failed to get a degree. I have one real life friend left. I spend 16 hours a day on tumblr and livejournal. I don't have a job.

Secret 10 - Star Trek Next Generation

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Doctor Ira Graves grabbing Data's neck, in the process of testing his joints and body to see how they move, from the TV show "Star Trek: The Next Generation". Ira has his back kind of turned to the viewer, obscuring his face. He is a middle-aged man with light rosy skin, very short light hair and wearing a very light brown jacket or sweater. Data is an android with pale skin and short dark hair slicked back. He is wearing a dark blazer of sorts. He is looking down, sort of confused.]

This The Next Generation episode ruined the bodily possession trope for me. (It's "The Schizoid Man" from season 2, by the way.)

I never had a problem with the trope before. But something about how Graves acted while in Data's body (and how it was described) gave off such a strong, detailed, palpable vibe of someone smothering and trapping another and violating every aspect of their autonomy by animating their body and words in ways the original would never act or speak that it made me noticeably distressed for several days and ruined the high-concept-ness and fantastic-ness of all other instances of possession in any fiction ever. The way he systematically psychologically manipulated Data into trusting him and volunteering information about himself was also unusually squicky for the show.

Secret because: No one seems to discuss individual Star Trek The Next Generation episodes anymore.

Secret 11 - Death Note

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is Ryuk from the Death Note anime/manga series, as portrayed in the live action version. He is a humanoid creature (a shinigami) He is inside a convenience store, standing tall and almost reaching the ceiling, fairly above the shelves. He has a thin waist and broad shoulders. He is either very furry or is wearing furry clothing, but anyway, he looks like he has dark fur all over his body, with particularly long hairs on his shoulders. He has claw-like kind of skeletal-like dark gray hands with some metallic rings on some fingers. He has a brown collar and a large brown belt. He has a frankly scary face with very wide eyes kind of bulging out with dark irises and no pupils and yellow sclera, with black around them. His lips are painted black, extending to his ears. He has sharp teeth, maybe? He has short black hair with a widow's peak, standing up in spikes. His skin on his face is white. He has fairly human-like ears.]

I don't know why I love this photo so much. It's so utterly perfect and I'm weirdly obsessed with it.

Secret 12 - General fandom

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
[Picture is black text over a light cream blank background.]

I find it weird when people "move on" from a fandom. Most works that I enjoy enough to obsess over for any length of time tend to stay with me for good. The characters, the settings, the themes, everything. It seems strange to me to just forget something you claim to have liked so much. I guess people's interests change, but I just can't imagine abandoning anything like that completely.

Maybe I'm just too obsessive.

Not Secret

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-20 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Picture is a cropped image from someone's media player program, showing number of stars in the rating of each song, presumably, and the number of times it has been played. Except that we can't see the names of the songs because they were cropped out. Just the stars. And the numbers. Yup.
