[Man From U.N.C.L.E]

Sorry, I don't see it at all. But I have zero interest in remakes -- especially when it's stuff I love, such as UNCLE -- so maybe I'm biased.

It's not so much the appearance...in Man of Steel he was self-confident and professional, with an air of knowing just how capable he is that's too strong for arrogance. Some people didn't buy it at all for Kal-El (tho I personally liked it) but self-confidence paired with ruthlessness and an often-hidden core of compassion is what I want out of Napoleon, and I feel like he could pull that off. :D

After Starsky & Hutch, Miami Vice and Star Trek, I'm more than a little leery of any and all remakes these days. I really don't know if I could watch them mess with Illya.

(I mean, also MFU and Napolean, and Napolean & Illya the partnership, but ... mostly Illya. Do not mess with my snarky blond Russian renaissance men, thank you).

(Anonymous) 2013-08-20 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Then don't watch ;)

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
I keep trying them, just in case one of these days someone manages to get a remake right. With MFU, I'm kind of torn between curiosity and nostalgia on the one hand, and a really desperate need to not see Illya messed with on the other. I'm not sure which way it'll fall in the end. (And Guy Ritchie actually did pretty okay on the Sherlock Holmes movies - not at all accurate, but damned enjoyable).

I'll probably try it, just to see. I'm curious that way :)

Wait. They rebooted Starsky & Hutch? I know nothing of this and I need to know! For a friend.... yeah, that's it... for a friend.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
It's a parody.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
i assume they are talking about the movie with ben stiller and owen wilson.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
Armie Hammer is the Lone Ranger. Also kissed Leo DiCaprio in the recent J Edgar Hoover biopic. He is cute.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
But there've been so few decent remakes of any TV series.

And, sorry, it was painful enough watching Uma Thurman trying to be Emma Peel; the idea of anyone attempting to play Illya Kuryakin besides David McCallum is just wrong.

They're doing a remake? Maybe I'll like it. I haven't watched the TV show yet so I won't be biased, maybe it'll get me into it.

[Picture is the actor Henry Cavill as Napoleon Solo from the upcoming movie "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." He is a man with light olive skin, grayish blue eyes, a light mustache and beard and short, wavy black hair. He is wearing a black shirt, a blue tartan tie and a bluish gray vest. He is pulling at his tie with one hand and giving the viewer a serious look.]

"Adaptations are the devil," she says to all and sundry, privately convinced he will be a pretty much perfect Napoleon Solo.

Bonus secret: I don't know who Armie Hammer is but I am deeply suspicious. Google says he's 6'5. How can a really tall dude be Illya?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
That's Henry Cavill? I confused him with Matt Bomer. Damn my poor face recognition skills!

Don't feel bad, anon, I usually only figure out stuff like this thanks to Google.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
You do a fantastic job, too. Thanks!!

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-21 03:36 am (UTC)(link)
Thanks! c:

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
No, but I can see silver fox George Clooney and (I'm going to hell) grown, pumped & psyched Leonardo DiCaprio...

This secret makes me feel like I need to see Man From U. N. C. L. E., especially with the replies. Is it any good?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 08:51 am (UTC)(link)
I really like it! It has its moments of suckitude just like any show, and there was a different showrunner for each season; first season was black and white, pretty much straight up 'James Bond for tv', with the focus being on Solo rather than both he and Kuryakin. Season 2 was in color, similarly mostly serious, with a much stronger focus on the partnership kicking ass and taking names. Season 3 tried to ride on the coattails of Batman's success and was much more broad and campy--some people hate it, for some it's their favourite season. Four started to bring back seriousness but was cut short.

Uh...all that essay tl;drs to, I'd say try a few episodes! And if the first one you watch is too black and white or too bromancy or not bromancy enough or too serious or not serious enough, give an ep from another season a try. :D

Tall dudes played hobbits and dwarves in The Lord of the Rings movies. I don't know anything about Man From UNCLE, but if being specifically short is a thing, they can make that happen.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
THEY'RE MAKING A MOVIE ABOUT THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.?!

FUCK YEAH!

(Anonymous) 2013-08-21 09:18 am (UTC)(link)
Be you my spirit animal?

For I, too, am deeply suspicious.

...I'm on board with this. And wait, Arnie Hammer has been cast as Illya? That's...no.
