I've played the Sims 2 for years, and the only hacks that I have are ones to fix things that I personally found annoying about the game (except for the "batbox"). But in the beginning, I was fine without any hacks or modifications at all. There might be some things that happen that can be fixed with a download, but I can't really think of anything major that needs to be fixed.

Except maybe for the "no respawn" mods like "anti-redundancy", which keeps the game from creating so many NPCs that the neighborhood gets overloaded. There might be others like that, but that's the only one I can think of.

Personally, abortbedmaking saved most of my sims lives. That business of having to watch them trek up three flights of stairs to make the bed, two seconds before the carpool arrived, without being able to cancel the action placed their lives in danger of fatal smiting.
