Ever get into something through the fandom?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
I happened to see someone link a Left 4 Dead fic and clicked on a whim. Pretty much all I knew about the franchise was that it involved zombies, and my plan was just to treat the fic as a generic zombie apocalypse tale. Somehow or other things progressed to me actually playing the games.

Any similar stories?

Person of Interest.

I spent MONTHS reading Reese/Finch fic before I finally decided to watch the show.

Very glad I did!

The Avengers. Pacific Rim. Rise of the Guardians. Trying to get into Hannibal because the hanniart is so beautiful and tastefully gory and nghhh-

Also, fandom renewed my love for The Emperor's New Groove and Road to El Dorado. Saw all the awesome things I missed that made Lilo and Stitch such a fucking amazing film.

Fandom's good.

I watched Sherlock simply because I wanted to be able to browse my tumblr normally without getting even more spoiled than I already was. This about, uh, about 2 days after Reichenbach. I hadn't seen any of it before then, there had been some stuff on my dash from S1 but not the level of obsession when things exploded last January.

Green Lantern The Animated Series and Welcome to Night Vale. It honestly took about three different people on my dash talking about NV before I fired it up.

yeah, I only knew about Nightvale because of the fandom explosion. It's one of my favorite things now.

Ironically I don't really participate in the fandom, though.

mass effect and homestuck, off the top of my head. i tried getting into both a number of times and just couldn't do it (dont talk to me about driving in the mako, it gives me war flashbacks).

but i was really interested in learning more about the trolls, and thane krios/others from mass effect. kinda stuck through them longer than i had in the past and they stayed with me.

Mass Effect, mainly.
