I haven't watched in a while but wasn't the job offer from his ex's husband who was their friend and colleague while him and the ex were together? The guy he felt became unfairly more successful than him? I'm pretty sure the guy offered the money after the job offer was refused and his wife/Walt's ex tried to convince him to change his mind?

In any case I still would have thought it was stupid and wasteful not to accept the job offer over pride and directly contradicting the motive of protecting the family if the ex's money wasn't in play. But still... turning down a no-strings offer to pay for the chemo over pride is a little more in-your-face selfish than turning down accepting a job offer that would require a career change while battling an illness from someone you dislike/distrust.
