The merchandise and tourism generated by the Royals brings in considerably more money into the country than they spend.

That is absolute bollocks, France gets more tourism than us, France! You remember what they did to their Royals?
Funnily enough when the castles and the other various royal grounds have nobody living in them anymore, they can then be opened up for tourism.
Seriously, who would come to Britain because we have a Royal Family? That doesn't make any sense. It's not like every tourist that comes gets to visit them or anything, they'd unlikely ever see them. I've lived here my entire life and I have never seen any member of the Royal Family.
I really hate this reasoning, it is stupid and founded on pure assumption.

But how much of that is people going to visit historical sites and how much is directly generated by the Royals? People are still going to go see the castles even if Liz gets the boot.

I am sure during the weddings, births or funerals there are more visitors but that doesn't happen every year. People are still going to go see the castles even if Liz gets the boot.
