Rec me a game?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-22 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been looking for a game with a good level-grind for a while. Any recs? None of the really popular ones (Disgaea, Pokemon, etc.) please, I've played them all.

If you're willing to go old-school, I enjoyed the shit out of Final Fantasy V's job system.

FFV was like, maybe the only time I have ever actually enjoyed grinding. love that game. especially the GBA version.

Seconding this. (In fact, I just spent a solid hour grinding for XP on Earthbound this evening.)

I'd also recommend Seiken Densetsu/Legend of Mana 3.

ro2 maybe? it's free. the translations aren't that great though and they're still translating parts of the game so some of the quests and stuff seem stupid/random without the context. i have fun playing with other people though, personally. it's not that bad.

Ever try any Level-5 games before? You might like Rogue Galaxy and Dark Cloud. I would recommend White Knight as well, but since I only made it about thirty minutes in before getting too bored by the story to keep playing, well...

IDK if this series is considered really popular but the shin megami tensei series loves the level grind.

Yes. SMT games have a lot of grinding.

What platform are you looking for? PC? Consoles?

Shin Megami Tensei games - as the anon above me said - have a lot of grinding (and some of them even have some sort of monster collecting system): Devil Summoner, Digital Devil Saga and Persona 3 (probably 4 as well but I haven't played it) are for the PS2; Persona 2 (and Persona 3 Portable) are PSP games; Devil Survivor is a DS game.

On another note:
PS3 also has Dragon's Dogma, which can have a lot of grinding and you can go through several classes. It also has some interesting big monsters you can fight.
