LOL. It's kind of hard to take your opinion seriously when you say yourself that you barely remember the canon, but you have fun with that.

But even the wiki page I was linked to says: "He remained, however, an expert manipulator, a liar and a murderer, and he served as a main villain for much of the series."

Being a villain for much of the series isn't the same as being "an antagonist through and through." He had a very clear redemption arc, so it wasn't just one thing he did at the end, like you said. You're oversimplifying because you don't remember much of what happened.
