I am just going to say that I have never understood how people say that someone's death isn't worth feeling sorry about, and castigate them for doing the things that led to their death, while also saying that you 'don't think they deserved to die'

i have never understood that distinction at all

I think it's possible to feel empathy for someone while also thinking that they made poor choices and that those choices directly contributed to their death.
