I'm saying I 'm not really in favor of the death penalty for murderers, so it's weird as fuck to me to say that people who text and drive deserve to die

I don't think it's quite so simple as "those who text and drive deserve to die." It's more like, if people texted and drove and lived through it, of course they don't deserve to die. But if they texted and drove and died because of it, they quite literally brought it upon themselves and possibly brought it upon other people as well and therefore its hard for people like OP of the thread to feel sorry for them.

yeah that was probably not the best word choice

I think I was thinking trivial in the context of "things that one could conceivably merit death for" but it wasn't the right word to use
