Metabolism and the effect of different alcohols

(Anonymous) 2013-08-24 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I've made what is (to me) and interesting observation, and I'd like to see if anyone has experienced something similar.

Last night, I drank about six shots worth of whiskey over the course of two hours. I felt a little tipsy.

As of right now, I have had two beers over the course of two hours. The first had an ABV of 8%; the second had an ABV of 7%. I feel more tipsy than I did last night, despite the fact that the whiskey I was drinking was 40% and one shot is usually said to be equivalent to one beer.

My take-away is that I metabolize beer in a different way than I metabolize whiskey. So I feel the effects of the former more than I feel the effects of the latter.

Have any other drinkers in the room had similar experiences?

Fizzy alcohol like beer and champagne always make me tipsy a lot easier.

Carbonation makes alcohol enter your bloodstream faster.

Hmm.

That explains a lot, I'd say.

I've noticed similar phenomenon, but I don't think it ultimately has to do with the kind of booze you're drinking. For one thing, I've had times when I've got more or less drunk when I'm drinking the same thing. I think it's just, you know, the rate of metabolizing can be weird. Maybe you're more or less tired, maybe you've had more food, who knows? Shit's just weird. That's my explanation, anyway

yeah idk about OP's situation but I know drinking water/eating food while you're drinking can minimize the effects. There's probably a lot more at play too.
