God yes. If anything, Disney watered a lot of that shit down.

The Prince in Sleeping Beauty fucked her while she was in a coma and she only woke up after she'd given birth...to twins, I think.

Um, also, I seem to recall reading a version of Snow White where the stepmom was made to dance in red hot metal slippers at Snow White's wedding until she dropped dead. Evil woman, yes, but torture and murder? At a wedding she was invited to? All kinds of ickle there.

And in some of the original renditions of Little Red Riding Hood, Red pretty much just gets eaten by the wolf and that's the end of it. Nice tale for little girls who stray off the path, huh?

Not only that, but Sleeping Beauty only woke up because one of said twins accidentally suckled on the finger that had been pricked. And then, after the prince comes back and brings Beauty and the twins home, they have to figure out a way to trick the Prince's cannibalistic step-mother (in some versions his wife) into not eating them. I'm pretty sure said mother ends up brutally killed.

In one version of Cinderella, birds randomly peck out the step-sisters' eyes during her wedding.

Little Mermaid was told to murder her prince to remain human and was turned into foam when she didn't want to. But it's okay, because she got a ~soul~!

Don't get me wrong, I love the fucked-up-ness, but I don't think Disney was unreasonable in toning it down.

To be fair, Disney didn't water it down- it was based on the Perrault version, which was already watered down. Perrault's Sleeping Beauty was basically a French adaptation of the Italian tale "Sun, Moon, & Talia", which was the creepier version.
