You should tell your friend that. I don't think bringing it up would be that awkward for long, especially if you phrase it the way you did in the secret (which is sweet, I like it when you can tell that two people really have a good relationship from a secret).

whoops... I feel like this could have been written about me :x I hope my fandom friends are as chill about it as you are, op.

This is really, really genuinely nice secret.

I hope you're not too afraid to tell your friend this, OP. I actually think they'd really appreciate it.

Like everyone else has said, you should tell your friend, OP.

You're full of class, and I wish people would have the same attitude as you, which is 'we can still be friends even if you don't like/don't want to read my fic.'

Dear fandom friend,

We've known each other forever and I appreciate the support you've given me from the very beginning. Real life has been busy for us both and I just want to tell you that you do not have to keep promising to read my fanfic. It's sweet of you to reassure me you'll read/review as soon as possible, but you haven't done it in years and I wish you'd just quit bringing it up now because it's super awkward.

Post script: I'm still your friend and you're still awesome.

You are a sweet person, OP.

That's really sweet.

You should just politely tell your friend the truth. If you're afraid that your friend will be disappointed, don't be. From the way you describe it, the friendship is too strong to be broken by something such as fan fiction left to gather dust.

No kidding, this secret is one of the cuddliest, fuzziest ones yet.

I have/had a fandom friend that I don't read any of her stuff on my own, because she literally doesn't post anything that I want to read. Maybe you could explain to your friend that it's okay if her tastes differ from yours and that you guys can still be cool without reading each other's work?

This could have been written about me. Strangely reassuring, even though I know it probably wasn't.

You should tell them, OP! You sound super nice and I'm sure they just feel guilty and would like hearing it from you.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-26 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
How do you know they don't read it? Just because they don't leave reviews doesn't mean they didn't read it. (I never leave comments on people's stories if like... I see that person every day. It seems weird to me.)

OP says their friend keeps promising to read/review; that implies a written comment in fandom parlance.
