Um,there have been ways for women to remove hair from the pubic area since the Greek times. It was considered a status symbol of class and standing for a woman to have her pubic hair removed. Roman woman used volsella which were tweezer-like tools. Various depilatory creams have existed as well. And women of a high class in medieval times were also known to remove body hair.

So, no magic spells just what they had at the time.

I was responding to the GOT criticism though, where most of the women who are depicted naked are not high class and many of them are in situations where they would not be spending hours wasting time removing their pubic hair. Like if say Cersei was depicted as very clean and shaven, I could understand that, but what about characters from harsher environments like Ygritte?

I'm mostly calling out the showrunners, because GRRM doesn't describe his characters as completely waxed and how perfect the women look naked on the show often distracts from the storytelling.

Yup. This is why I roll my eyes a bit when people to think that it's totally unrealistic for any character to lack pubic hair. Even leaving aside depilation, if there are clean-shaven dudes around, surely it's not too big of a stretch to imagine women occasionally shaving that area?

So yeah, a certain type of women removing hair doesn't bother me. But GoT, where all the women, including, say, Osha, seem to remove most of their pubic hair, is still annoying...

Yep, I appreciated that Natalia Tena who plays her asked to have a "great big bush down to [her] knees" but the producers said no.

Yep. "Threading: The Ancient Art Of Hair Removal" http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mwd2T8NKb0A There's no reason why this method can't be used "down there" too.

Ancient Greeks and Egyptians removed body hair so they wouldn't get (as many) lice. Male and female alike.
