That was probably it then. The hair you originally had was sun-bleached, while the new hair isn't. What you could do is just bleach it (there are hair bleaches for body hair) and see if it looks more to your liking.

Hmm, I might try that come winter when I don't shave anyway, I just hope I won't get the same skin reaction as I did when I used depilatory cream once.
