Seriously? Those people can fuck off. My white as white can be little girl loves Storm from the X-Men and I didn't even blink when she asked me to make her a Storm costume for Halloween when she was 4. If some asshole had tried to give her any shit, they would have had mean Mama Bear on their ass. Kids don't give a flip what color the character is, and there is no reason to make them.

Relevant to the secret, actually: a little girl of my acquaintance LOVED Princess and the Frog when it came out. She's a dead ringer for Charlotte, but neglected to factor that into her decision to dress up as Tiana 24/7 for awhile. Some of us adults sort of joked about it to each other - not to her - but we shouldn't have even done that, really. It was adorable.

That does sound pretty adorable.

I'm going through this now -- my kid wants to be Iridessa (http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Iridessa) for Halloween. Obviously I'm not going to do blackface, but I fail to see how the civil rights movement is harmed by a 6-year-old dressing up like her favorite fairy.
