[Resident Evil 6]

possible vague spoilers for Resident Evil 6?

[personal profile] transcriptanon 2013-08-27 11:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Picture is two screen-captures of Chris Redfield and Piers Nivans from the videogame series "Resident Evil". They're both men with light skin and very short brown hair. They're both wearing similar sort of soldier uniforms. In one picture, one of them is looking down, upset, while the other looks on from behind; in the other picture, they're exchanging wary glances while standing apart and circling each other.]

I think part of what tore me up so much about the story of Chris and Piers was that it made me discover how desperately I want someone to care about me as much as Piers cared for Chris. Or, alternatively, I'd like to have someone in my life that I care so much for that I'd die for them.

Piers' death still upsets me

I still want to file a complaint about it. I love Chris as a character, and I have since arguably the remake of RE1 and Code Veronica. (Spoiler; I adore both the Redfield siblings.) I would've been sad had he died and not Piers, since Piers was the perfect setup to go a new way and bring in a new cast and some new blood.

They bought back Sherry and I loved Jake, too. If they could've just stuck to their guns, RE6 would've been perfect (okay, maybe not perfect) for future series titles. Instead, we're stuck going in circles again. Joy.

Aw man, so much this. As I played through the campaign and really grew to like Piers, I started to get excited about the idea of him being in newer installments. It'd be nice to see a new character introduced by way of someone familiar, and then grow into their own in another game, I thought.

Nope.

On the bright side, I also liked Jake and Helena. So, at least there's that. (At first I was worried that Helena was just going to be introduced as another woman for Leon to have sexual tension with, so I'm glad that wasn't the case.)

Still, Piers was my favorite RE newbie! So much disappointment.

If my bff's theory is correct, Piers will be back.

Now that Wesker seems like he's finally actually dead, the series needs a new main antagonist. They're more or less locked in with Ada as anti-hero, so it's not going to be her. And the Big Bad of RE6 was unmemorable and seems to be truly dead as well.

So, here we've got Piers: close relationship to Chris, injects himself with the C virus... sound familar? If Piers came back as an antagonist, he'd fill Wesker's shoes rather nicely.

I'm not sure I agree with said bff - because I don't think the typewriter monkeys who plot out the RE franchise are that clever - but at least the theory's out there.

I was talking about that exact same theory with a friend last night. I don't want them to do that. AT all. I don't want Piers to be dead, but I don't want him to be a villain either. I'd love for him to come back cured, but that won't ever happen.

Can I ask why you don't want him back as a villain? I think it could be interesting, if done well (though again, given the calibre of the monkeys on their typewriters, it almost certainly won't be).

I don't think Piers had the character development in RE6 to later come back as a villain. Though fandom's got a semi popular idea that he could team up with Ada. Almost like a not quite good nor evil character, which I'd welcome it! Hell. I'm still of the belief that that second soldier we can play as in The Mercenaries is Piers. Which, I know it's stupid and unlikely. Leave me to my delusions. ;A;

I sort of agree. But if they used what character development he did</i< get - i.e. his devotion and dedication to his cause, his faith in Chris, and turned those strengths up to their worst extreme, you could have a pretty interesting villain on your hands. Buuuuut I don't trust them to do that. If they did have villain!Piers, he'd probably just have lost his memories/mind or something trite like that.

My initial thought, which shows how far out of the loop I am: THERE'S A RESIDENT EVIL 6?!?

Last one I played and knew about was 4. Looks like I'm trapped in 2007.

All of that said. You have a lot of life left to live, and in that time, you could find someone that you care about that much, or who cares about you that much. But it's not something that just happens; it's something that you've got to work at. Relationships are voluntary and they are at their best when they're the product of mutual effort.

Become what you want to be, OP, and then seek those who are like you or who will get what you're about.

I didn't like Piers. He was like broken record. I like most RE characters straight off the bat but Piers really grated my nerves... Still, it would've been nice if at least *one* of Chris's team had survived.

I'm a huge fan of the whole new generation thing though, so bringing Piers back as a villain type character would be a decent option. But yeah, I didn't really like him :|

Thank you for saying this. Back when I was in the RE fandom, I felt like I was the only one who wasn't impressed with this guy. I don't hate him but I didn't find him interesting. I thought he was a Gary Stu who got away with it because he died. It didn't help that most of his fans irrationally hate Helena for not having to courtesy to die in his place, because apparently that makes sense.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-29 01:32 pm (UTC)(link)
It made sense to me because her story arc was completed. Her resolution and redemption took place, she had no open ties, nothing that would've made her death particularly out of sync with the rest of the story. She was headed to jail for cooperating with Simmons, if we had continued on the path of, "She's going to jail even after the outbreak is stopped" then if she had sacrificed herself, say, for Leon, it would've felt right. Say what you want about Piers, but he had every right to live and fill Chris' boots in future titles. I have nothing against Helena, I just think it would've been a better fit.
