The fact that he came off as an entitled asshole during the convo I had with him years ago is enough for me. I stopped reading the books and decided I didn't need to watch the show.

Wow, really? I dot watch or read the series but in reluctant to because of his attitude towards fanfiction, but most fans I know adore his persona. What about him came off as 'entitled asshole'?

It was more than 10 years ago so I don't even remember specifics anymore, just the feeling that he gave me at the time. I decided he wasn't getting anymore money from me.

I sort of get the same impression from things I've heard about him. Or at very least, his dismissal of fan fic writers as being lazy (IIRC, it was something to that effect at least). Rule number 1 for writers/actors/etc: don't go after your own fans. It makes you look like an asshole.

That said, I still read the books (though I refuse to buy them in hardcover) and watch the show (which I enjoy more than the books, I think), and all that. Plus, when I'm really annoyed with him, I remind myself that he created Tyrion, who is made of awesome (most of the time).
