wow i didn't think anyone actually disliked GoT. have yet to watch it myself

Most feminists recognise it for the tripe it is. If you've never heard of a complaint about it, you're hanging with the wrong people.

So what if a feminist actually likes it?

Or is there a no true feminist fallacy in place for that one?

(not talking about me btw)

Note that the comment you replied to says "most."

Yes, but your "most" was followed by "for the tripe it is/" and was followed by a sentence implying this should be more then a subjective opinion if one is within the feminist community.

Not necessarily. "The wrong people" doesn't necessarily mean "non-feminists," does it?

(Not the person who originally posted that comment, btw. If they were planning on going No True Scotsman, I completely take this argument back.)

>(not talking about me btw)<

You are pro feminism? Since when?
Or are you just anti rad!fem and have a weird way of showing it?

If you dislike something I like you're hanging out with the wrong people.

Reason #53535 as to why I don't pay attention to feminists

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't want to hear how much I despise this show and the fact that so many people think it's all that and a bag of chips.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-27 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
The show manages to be even more gross and sexist than the books. It's really awful.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-28 12:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Did anyone really expect better from HBO?

I read the first book and while I thought it was technically pretty good and it held my interest, I got negative fun out of it. The authorial emotional cockteasing sure is engaging but I don't know at one point one is supposed to derive any enjoyment from being a GoT fan. It's not that it's too ~edgy~ for me either; I tend to enjoy darker stuff. I just didn't enjoy the storytelling. I told myself I'd maybe try the next book in a year or so, and guess what? I never got around to it. Never watched the TV show either.

This is the second comment of yours where I'm like, "yes! Yes! Yes!"

There were things that I really loved about the first book (e.g. Ned Stark's story arc. I do legitimately think it's absolutely brilliant), but overall, it fell flat for me and my enjoyment was negligible. I've said I'll get around to the rest of the series, but...I haven't. And I've lapped up volumes from other series in the same amount of time, so I know it's neither procrastination nor a lack of funds.

I just don't truly care about any of the surviving characters, and I don't care where the overall plot goes -- particularly since I damn well know it's not gonna be about the Whitewalkers, and that's what I actually wanted to read about.

I liked aspects of it. I loved the overall plot and the way each characters are set to their own agenda with their limitations (mostly, the way Jon Snow and Daenerys is overloved is why I can't stand them); but it is so badly written and badly edited I just can't grind through the books any more.

Not touching the TV show for completely different reasons.

Not a feminist, but I stopped watching half-way through series 3 because it's fucking boring.

I will still continue to read the books though. TBH, I only kept watching up until that point because I watched it together with a bunch of friends, and because it's cool to see some of the places from the books brought to live (the show is very appealing visually). But at one point I just could not stand it any more.

The show moves at a snails pace, something that never bothered me with the books, because when you're reading you can chose your own pacing, etc.

And when finally something DOES happen, the scene gets cut off, so they can shoehorn in another pointless sex scene. It's extremely frustrating to watch.

Plus, very unequal boobs/vag to dick/ass ratio. If you're a straight woman or a gay man you don't even get any good fanservice. Most dudes never even take their shirt off.

I hated it. Not only for the treatment of women (I don't mind rape, or women being socially inferior, but the author very much sexualizes the women in a gross way.. talking about their boobs and nipples are wholly inappropriate times, etc.) and the torture porn, but I don't think it's actually all that clever of a show. Plus, it seems an awful lot like the author made a list of everything taboo or uncomfortable and tried to string it along together in a plot. It's excessive, unbelievable and ridiculous.
