It's a dirty scam for sure.

My art history professor will always have a place in my heart, a warm and loving place, because I went to him after the first class saying sheepishly "Do I NEED the latest edition, because it is super expensive and I need money for food?" and he was like "No problem, here, borrow this copy I have, for the semester, and I'll give a handout of anything that's only in the new edition."
