OP Stephen Fry wrote a great novel (well I liked it a lot) called "The Star's Tennis Balls" he had it published, sold well etc. Then he realised he'd written The Count of Monte Cristo. He was quite mortified. It's true the plot is basically the same, but the setting and the characters very different.

I think what you've done is very different to E.L James, and anyhow, she made a lot of money, I tried to read her book, it was awful, but she's laughing all the way to the bank.
