both of my feet are swollen and i have no clue why. one is more swollen than the other and neither of them hurt but wtf? this happened last october - for the first time - to only one of my legs and it sent me to the emergency room (my mum thought it might've been a blood clot, but bloodwork turned up nothing). i'm not super worried that it's something which would require prompt attention but ... my body is trying to tell me something. it's gotta be happening for a reason but i've no guess as to why. guess i should go back to the doctor's office soon.

Are you pregnant or overweight? That can happen if you sit down for an extended period of time.

Re: ??????

(Anonymous) 2013-08-30 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm a little overweight but not pregnant. my best guess is what you said (sitting for a long time) but i recently started school up again and i am generally more active and eat more nutrients while in school. most of my sitting during school comes from being in classes. idk, it's weird. but my legs aren't read or painful or anything. i highly doubt it's DVT or anything that serious. my dad has a history of vericose veins but i don't think it's that either. it's just weird cuz my activity levels haven't changed a whole lot throughout the years, and i've never had health problems or any kind of swelling like this before (except for that time in october). so i'm not sure what i'm doing that's causing this.

If it's very hot where you are and you've walked quite a bit today (or sat in the same position for a long time) it might be normal. But better be safe than sorry.

i forgot to mention that i noticed the swelling last night (only in the one foot though, it just dawned on me that i think both are swollen...) and when i woke up they looked a little better but they look a tad worse again. but i mean it is pretty hot today. not walking around much though.

You could be developing a food allergy.

Are you having any other symptoms?

What kind of socks do you wear, if you are wearing any? My mom had some problems with her socks being too tight around the top and it made her ankles, and feet swell. She had to buy new socks.

Sorry if it's not helpful, but that's all I can think of.

Re: ??????

(Anonymous) 2013-08-30 11:20 pm (UTC)(link)
no, my socks are fine. thanks for the thought though. i think it's just... i dunno, probably nothing since bloodwork didn't catch anything last time, but i'm gonna check with my doc to be sure.

Why the fuck are you asking fandomsecrets this?

[personal profile] chardmonster 2013-08-30 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Go ask a doctor.

Re: Why the fuck are you asking fandomsecrets this?

(Anonymous) 2013-08-30 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
i wasn't asking anybody anything , i was just mentioning it. i don't see why there's an issue in me talking about something that's kinda worrying me, especially if it helps calm my nerves. i already said i was going to go back to the doctor. leave me alone

Ignore chard. If you feel is not doctor worthy yet it's fine to come here for bouncing ideas :)

No you fucking idiot it's not.

[personal profile] insanenoodlyguy 2013-08-31 01:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Listen carefully. This is not trolling. This is not me giving over the top advice. You however are giving shit advice.

A. THEY ALREADY MENTIONED THEY HAD TO GO TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM FOR THIS.

B. ODDS ARE GOOD THAT NONE OF THE PEOPLE "BOUNCING" IDEAS ARE MEDICAL PROFESSIONALS.

OP did say they were going, but there is the small but real possibility that idiots could assure them it's fine and they don't have to if they don't feel like it. Like you. Stop being an idiot. This is the kinda shit that makes people wait a few days and then it's much, much worse.

Dehydration can cause fluid retention in legs and feet. So, how has your drinking been?

Re: ??????

(Anonymous) 2013-08-30 11:31 pm (UTC)(link)
haha honestly not as good as it should be... i'll drink more and see what happens. last time i had swelling it slowly went away over the course of a few days.

Re: ??????

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe try resting with your feet raised to see if it drains down a bit

Re: ??????

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
this. legs-up-the-wall would be a good idea

I don't want to alarm you

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 12:31 am (UTC)(link)
but this happened recently to my father, and it turned out that it was his old Lupus flaring up again because he ate something with collagen

press your finger into your ankle; if the dent stays there, then you should maybe worry. pitting edema can be a sign of heart failure.

why yes, i'm a hypochondriac.
