Unfortunately, I agree with this :( fandom is such an unsafe space now, it's probably better to be selective about where you say things. Not that any of it's okay - and I'm all for educating the ignorant among us - but until we get to that point creating our own safe spaces seems to be the way to go.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-30 11:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Unsafe for...who exactly? Maybe it's just the fandoms I'm in, but I definitely find that most people seem to err on the side of not warning/letting people write whatever they want without so much as a twitch.

Maybe you guys should go check out the SPN kink meme. I here that it's all about the underage incestous rape.

Fandom used to be (just three or for years ago) our safe space.

Then the reactionary SJWs showed up and started tearing it down.

Legit question since I don't touch the fandom with a ten mile pole, does Supernatural fandom have SJWs? I wanna know how they deal with being in a fandom that needs an entire kink meme for underage prompts (from what I've heard).

(Anonymous) 2013-08-30 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Not in Supernatural fandom, so I'm also curious about this.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god yes we have them. Though, likely due to the subset of fandom I hang around in, those I've seen are less into policing kink memes and more about OMG CHECK YOUR PRIVILEGE YOU CIS HET STRAIGHT WHITE MALE CHRISTIAN MIDDLE-CLASS ABLE-BODIED MISOGYNIST DUDEBRO HOMOPHOBIC RACIST SCUM HOW DARE YOU NOT WANT OUR SHIP TO BE CANON PROBLEMATIC QUEERBAITING RAPE CULTURE AND OTHER INFLAMMATORY WORDS FROM THE APPROVED LIST ARFHGASOPHFISODHISDF

I'm sure they're all over the kink meme too. I just haven't gone there to see.

I wouldn't call myself a SJW, but I would expect that it is similar for the SJW types in SPN, maybe? I used to love SPN and watch it, make graphics for it, read and review fic for it, etc. I knew the show/fandom had problematic aspects, which I dealt with as best I could (like the treatment of female characters such as Bela in Season 3, and the fact that they managed to have an entire episode without a single credited female character in season 4), but I continued to watch. I finally hit my breaking point in Season 5 and stopped watching and left fandom. I'd wonder if a lot of other people who care about things like the treatment of female characters and characters of color left as well, such that no one really talks about it? I don't really know, though, as I said, I left fandom years ago, but it's a guess at least? Hopefully someone who is still in fandom can really answer it for you.

Supernatural has the same problem Doctor Who has, the people at the top are people fandom doesn't like. They'll use anything to complain about them. 99% of the Doctor Who "social justice" complaints aren't anything to do with the show, but are just butthurt over-entitled fans using SJ as a way to club to showrunners for making choices they don't like.

It's PC gone mad, isn't it?

I heard one time an SJW set fire to a baby because she was dressed in pink.

RME

(Anonymous) 2013-08-30 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
And then wouldn't let them use a red fire extinguisher to put out the flames, because red is too much like pink. The inferno took out whole city blocks. The great Babby Fire of 2012. I remember it well.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
IIRC, the tragedy was exacerbated by the fact that another group of SJWs had blocked off the most direct route to the blaze from the fire station. I heard they said the road was flaunting its straight privilege. No word of a lie - that's totally part of what happened. Heartbreaking.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 12:48 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that is so annoying! That street is totally not straight! Check it on the satellite maps, it totally has a 0.5 degree bend in it!

And it also shamelessly intersects with an avenue and a boulevard.

(Anonymous) 2013-08-31 12:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, but try telling that to an SJW. They won't listen. Millions of them will descend upon you and put you in internet prison for saying that (and also for appropriating somebody else's culture if you don't use your own country's default Google - that happened to a friend of a friend. Spread the word.)

LMAO @ this whole thread.
