pulling fic from the internet

(Anonymous) 2013-08-30 10:56 pm (UTC)(link)
so I hear that people get upset when writers take their fic off the internet, but I don't intend on ever finishing mine and I've decided I don't want to be bothered about them anymore, and I don't necessarily want them connected to me anymore either. They've gone without updates for 6 months or more, but people are still messaging me about them (which I mean is nice, but I am through with them). Should I take them down? People get mad when that happens right?

Sad more than mad.

If you want to be kind to your readers, put the fics on AO3 and orphan the account.

Yeah, that would be the kindest thing to do.

I've had authors delete all of their pretty good, super rare slash fics because they saw the light in Jesus and now thought all slash was evil - that was very sad.

well the thing is that I already have an acct on AO3 and the name is the same as one I use in various places around the internet, and I don't really want to have to change my name in other places too, but I don't really want the fic popping up when people are looking for me.

DA

You could just get an additional account, transfer the fic and orphan that one?

...that is a really good idea. Thank you!

da

also, if you have it in other accounts, you can change the e-mail there to an account you don't use or don't use as often

or maybe even make a filter in your e-mail to shove all e-mails from AO3 and similar sites into one folder, which you can then ignore or even empty as you please

When my faves disappear, I don't get mad, but very disappointed and a bit sad. I like to re-read things, and sometimes forget to save fics I like.

It's like finding that a book you like has just been vanished from the earth. *sadness*

Yeah, it sucks hard.

I've been really disappointed to find fics I love no longer exist on the internet; as such, I'm keeping all mine up just in case people have liked them enough to want to revisit them in a couple of years.

I can understand why you'd want to take them down though. Agree with the other anon about shifting to another account and then abandoning it.
