Actually.. who the fuck takes it seriously in ANY regard?

Nobody who's actually seen or heard about more than a minute or two of III or IV (I know nothing of I and II, so they might be dead serious for all I know).

I haven't played I at all and only seen a few vids of II, but I own and love the shit out of III and IV. AFAIK Saints Row started out as a kind of crappy Grand Theft Auto ripoff, and the silliness somewhat started in II before getting shamelessly ridiculous in III.

If people are looking at SR for feminism or ANY kind of actual social commentary without the tongue being totally in-cheek.. uh, they're looking in the wrong places.

Eh, from what I understand 1 actually was better than it's equivalent GTA, and 3 is still an awesome [maybe better than GTA, imo] game.

It is in my opinion, but it became so by "out gta'ing GTA" as one reviewer put it. Mind you, it does this shamelessly and over the top. I mean for fucks sake, in SR III you fight a gang comprised of LUCHADORES. WITH A WRESTLER VOICED BY HULK HOGAN ON YOUR SIDE.

And yes... YOU CAN DO IT WITH A DILDO.



This game is not made to be taken seriously by anybody. It's two redeeming values are:

1. It's completely honest about what it is

and more importantly

2. It's fun

Oh, I know. I love SR3 because of stuff like that [though it doesn't hurt that I adore Kenzie] I was just pointing out that, from what I heard, it basically did GTA better than GTA from the start, which is pretty rare for a clone game.

It's been a while since I played GTA, but I remember it being less.. light hearted than SR, at least a bit. Still fun. (I never played GTAIV though, and everyone seems to dislike that one.) And I wasn't hating on SR3 - I meant it's ridiculous in a good way. Kind of hard to dislike the Genki minigames and skydiving into a pool party with Kanye West's Power playing.

But SRIV is where it's at. It's like a really purple drug.
