It's the problem of belonging to what is perceived as "the good side" and the same hilarious fallacy that makes script writers write lines like "Now 4. of July can be the whole worlds national day!" without realizing that that's generally offensive to everyone who's not American.

Hey, I'm Canadian, and I thought that line in Independence Day was hilarious, Especially since it meant that (in movie-world, anyway) I'd now get two stats (Jul 1 for Canada Day and Jul 4 for World Independence Day) whereas the poor Americans were getting ripped off by having two statutory holidays fall on the same day.
